The Board of Directors of the investment bank Goldman Sachs agreed to start trading bitcoin futures in the near future.
According to the New York Times edition, the company will use its own capital on behalf of and at the request of its customers. The exact date of the launch of the new service is still unknown, but the bank plans to «create its own flexible version of the futures, known as the» non-deliverable forward, «which will be offered to customers.»
According to the executive director of Rana Yared, Goldman Sachs decided to launch futures trading in response to numerous customer requests and a growing interest in the first crypto currency as an alternative asset.
«We listen when the customer says,» I want to buy bitcoin or bitcoin futures, because I consider them an alternative means of saving. » Almost all participants expressed a certain amount of skepticism. Not that we do not understand risk. It’s just an increased risk with which you need to be especially cautious, «- said Rana Yared.
Representatives of the bank noted that further deepening of the organization in the crypto-currency sector, including work directly with bitcoin, will be possible only after its full approval by financial regulators from the United States.
At the end of April, the bank launched the position of head of digital assets markets, which will work with the day-to-day operations of its customers. In addition, in December 2017 Bloomberg wrote that Goldman Sachs is developing a crypto-exchange area. The launch is scheduled for late June 2018.
Last year, major Chicago exchanges CME and CBOE added the opportunity to trade futures for bitcoin, after which the average market price of the first crypto currency for the first time in history exceeded the mark of $ 19,900.
